At first glance high rises and an extremely unfriendly subway system (We don’t recommend it for anyone who still needs a stroller. Elevators are hard to find and often out of order.) may not be the best place to visit with a child, but there are lots of hidden gems to explore in Toronto’s downtown core. The Historic Distillery District has family-friendly events such as Culture Days in the warmer weather and makes a great place to explore with kids. Kensington Market and Queen Street are both interesting areas for a walk and will give your child lots to talk about. For more upscale shopping, visit Bloor Street. from Yonge St. to just west of Avenue. The ROM museum at Avenue and Bloor is excellent for kids of all ages–the newly updated bat caves and dinosaur area are guaranteed hits. Plus, the downstairs cafe is surprisingly tasty and affordable.
